The F/A-18 Super Hornet is a carrier based Multirole Fighter aircraft. It was first introduced in 1999, but was put into service in 2010. It carries an armament of air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles and a 20mm cannon. The Super Hornet was designed to replace the aging F-14 Tomcat. The new Super Hornet was designed to have multiple roles including an attacker, fighter, even a tanker. As of April 2011, about 500 Super Hornets have been built at a price of 55 million dollars.
