The Boeing AH-64 Apache is an attack helicopter gunship currently used by the U.S. Army. It is operated by a two man crew, and flies at a top speed of 182 mph. It can fly as high as 21,000 feet, and is the first helicopter to have operating radar aboard. The Apache carries a M230 Chain gun, Hydra 70 air-to-ground missiles, and AGM-114 anti-tank missiles. The Apache was produced for the Army to replace the aging AH-1 Cobra. The Army needed a new strike helicopter that was capable of destroying enemy tanks from a distance. Therefor, Boeing designed the Apache. It has served in Panama, Persian Gulf War, Kosovo War, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Currently the AH-64D Apache Longbow costs about 18 million dollars.
